My Town

I have been to many places,
I have seen so many faces,
But now the time has come
To head make my way back home,

O, I live my life,
I give my life,
I live my life,
for my town.

All my friends hurry on their way,
Leaving home, can't find the time to stay,
Now I must declare
I'm happy where I am

O, I live my life,
I give my life,
I live my life,
for my town.

(Bridge)
I don't say much but when I do
You can believe that what I say is true
And you can love this place
You know it's up to you,

Though my life may lead me far away
In my mind you know I'll always stay
And in my heart you know I'll always pray
that you'll...

O, I live my life,
I give my life,
I live my life,
for my town.

My town was one of the first songs I wrote for a special project. 1972 was the centennial year for my home town, Walnut, Illinois. As part of raising money to support the seven day Centennial celebration, we put this song on 45s and sold them for a $1 a piece. Surprisingly, I think we sold quite a few. We recorded the song at Golden Voice Studio in South Pekin, Illinois under the expert guidance of my good friend Jerry Milam. I'm not entirely sure I remember who played on the recording but I think it was Al Hurst on drums and probably Randall Johnson on bass. Hmmmm... I sound a little like a chipmunk.
